Adobe Photoshop - we recommend this software, as an industry leader used worldwide by professional graphic designers and photographers. It is considered by far the best program on the market. Photoshop has different versions from the basic Photoshop Elements 6 to the most up to date Photoshop CS4. From the other, being the most popular and useful, Photoshop is also one of the most expensive graphic editing software.

 

GIMP - GNU Image Manipulation Program - is a freely distributed piece of software for tasks as photo retouching, image authoring, format converter, graphics paint, etc. GIMP has almost the same functionality as Adobe Photoshop, but remains free. It also comes with a large base of supportive documentation and tutorials.

 

Paint.Net - this is another free graphic editing software that supports layers and can be useful for start-up designers. It includes an impressive number of tools, being constantly updated and improved.
